Brazilian team will pay tribute to Zagallo in friendly against England

Former player and coach Zagallo, four-time world champion with the Brazilian team in different roles, will be honored by Brazil’s players in the friendly against England, this Saturday, at Wembley. It will be the first time that the five-time champion takes the field after the death of her idol.

The CBF made a special patch with his image on the sleeve of the shirt that will be used, as well as a pennant in honor of the greatest World Cup winner. Starting in 1958 and 1962, coach of the 1970 team and coordinator of the national team at the 1994 World Cup, Zagallo lifted four trophies.

“Zagallo deserves all the tributes. Honoring his memory in a national team game, his passion, in a packed Wembley stadium has an even more special meaning. It is a fair tribute from the CBF to this legend of world football”, said the CBF president, Ednaldo Rodrigues.

Inspired by the image of the coach on the sidelines during the 1998 World Cup, the work took around two years to complete and involved 26 artisans. Weighing 30 kilos, it was made by the same studio responsible for the statues of Marta and Pelé.

“In this first game of the Brazilian team after Zagallo’s death, we could not fail to pay another tribute, the passion for hopscotch that he made echo around the world, a commemorative patch, pennant, plaque and also a tribute made by Dorival himself will be represented We need to preserve our history and value those who made Brazil the greatest team in the world”, said CBF Marketing Director, LĂȘnin Franco.

Finally, in 2022, Zagallo was honored with a statue in the CBF museum.
