In the final, the Mexicans will face the USA, who beat Jamaica 3-1 in extra time in the other semi-final. The decision will take place this Sunday, at 10:15 pm (Brasília time).
The dispute for third place, between Panama and Jamaica, will be held on the same day, but a little earlier, at 7pm. All matches in this final stage are being played at AT&T Stadium.
The game
The match started evenly with chances for both teams, but at the end of the first half, in the 39th minute, Mexico took control of the game and opened the scoring, with Edson Álvarez. Luis Chávez, missing in the middle on the right, crossed at the second post to the midfielder, who was alone and headed hard into the ground to find the net.
Three minutes later, Mexico took advantage of the blow suffered by Panama and expanded. After a dispute in midfield, Henry Martín made a good deep pass to Quiñones, who advanced from the left, cut past defender César Montes and shot low into the goalkeeper’s corner.
In the final stage, Panama started pressing and had a great chance to pull one back after five minutes. José Fajardo received the ball in the small area and shot hard, but goalkeeper Ochoa was agile and made a great save.
The Mexicans increased their lead in the 16th minute of the second half, through Orbelín Pineda. The midfielder received a great throw from César Montes and shot the ball past the goalkeeper to score the last goal of the match.
