Russian youth team defeated world champions from Uruguay in a friendly match
The senior coach of the Russian youth football team, Ivan Shabarov, appreciated the victory over the Uruguay team, the current world champions. His words are quoted by “Championship”.
Shabarov said that he was pleased with the result of the match, noting that friendly matches are useful for the Russian team. “It’s nice that we managed to win, but the fact that we didn’t convert a large number of chances upset me,” he emphasized.
The meeting between Uruguay and Russia took place on the night of March 21-22 in Montevideo and ended in a victory for the Russians with a score of 1:0. The only goal was scored in the 81st minute by midfielder Dmitry Kuchugura, who converted a penalty.
The Uruguay U-20 national team is the current world champion. Russian youth teams do not take part in official tournaments due to the suspension of the Union of European Football Associations and the International Football Federation.
