Foreign Minister Lavrov said that Russia considers the politicization of sports unacceptable
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke about the politicization of sports. His words are quoted by TASS.
Lavrov said that Russia considers the politicization of sports unacceptable. “Although this line of the West, with the support of international officials, continues, it does not seem that it will end soon,” the head of the Foreign Ministry emphasized.
On March 19, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) called the Friendship Games a politicized event of the Russian government. “The IOC urges all participants in the Olympic movement and all governments to refuse to participate in or support any initiatives aimed at the complete politicization of international sport,” the organization noted.
The Friendship Games will take place in September 2024 in Moscow and Yekaterinburg. The tournament will include competitions in 33 summer Olympic and non-Olympic sports.
