RFU Secretary General Mitrofanov: Serbia was paid less for the match with Russia than Cameroon
General Secretary of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Maxim Mitrofanov spoke about payments to the opponents of the national team in friendly matches. His words are quoted by “Championship”.
“We didn’t pay 900 thousand euros for the Cameroonian national team to come to Russia. How many? Twice as much, plus or minus. We paid even less to Serbia and Paraguay, both,” he said. Mitrofanov noted that teams coming to Russia incur high expenses, since they have to travel with transfers.
In March, the Russian national team will play two friendly matches in Moscow. On March 21, Valery Karpin’s team will play against Serbia, and four days later they will meet with Paraguay.
In the fall of 2023, the Russian national team played three matches – they defeated Cameroon and Cuba, and tied with Kenya. Previously, Karpin’s team also met with Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Iran and Iraq.
Russian football clubs and national teams do not take part in international tournaments by decision of the International Football Federation and the Union of European Football Associations.
