The EU Court ruled to lift sanctions against race car driver Nikita Mazepin
The European Court of Justice ruled to exclude former Formula 1 driver Nikita Mazepin from the sanctions lists. TASS reports this with reference to a court ruling.
“The family connection with his father, Russian businessman Dmitry Mazepin, is not sufficient for him to be considered related to his father by common interests and, therefore, for him to remain on these lists,” the ruling said. Mazepin Jr. was included in the sanctions list in March 2022.
The American Formula 1 team Haas terminated its contract with the driver in March 2022. The team also announced the termination of cooperation with Uralkali, which sponsored it. Mazepin spent one season with the team, finishing 20th in the overall standings.
Haas owner Gene Haas explained the team’s decision. According to him, the team faced criticism for working with a pilot from Russia.
