The IOC has named the maximum number of Russians who have a chance to compete at the Olympics

James MacLeod said that a maximum of 55 Russians have a chance to compete at the Olympics

A maximum of 55 Russian athletes have a chance to compete at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. This number was given to TASS by James MacLeod, director of the department for relations with national Olympic committees of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

According to him, Belarus has 28 such athletes. “Our experts suggest that 36 neutral athletes with Russian passports and 22 with Belarusian ones still qualify for the Games,” MacLeod added.

Previously, Russian boxers refused to qualify for the Olympic Games. Domestic athletes will not perform at the qualifying tournaments due to the need to obtain neutral status. Representatives of artistic and rhythmic gymnastics also expressed a similar position.

Last December, the IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Paris Olympics as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the 2024 Games. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
