Russian boxers refused to qualify for the 2024 Olympics in neutral status
Russian boxers refused to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games. Secretary General of the Russian Boxing Federation Tatyana Kiriyenko reported this to TASS.
Domestic athletes will not perform at the qualifying tournaments due to the need to obtain neutral status. “We cannot betray our Motherland! We do not condemn anyone, but we have a clearly formed position. This is the opinion of the entire boxing family,” Kiriyenko shared.
Earlier it became known that Russian gymnasts also lost their chances of qualifying for the Olympics. None of the team members received the neutral status necessary to participate in the qualifying starts.
In December, the IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Paris Olympics as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the 2024 Games. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
