Alexey Yagudin spoke about the tears of figure skater Valieva a day before the CAS verdict
Olympic figure skating champion Alexey Yagudin, in an interview with Laysan Utyasheva’s YouTube channel, described the emotions of figure skater Kamila Valieva after interrogations at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Yagudin said that he spoke with the athlete a day before the verdict was announced, and she told him how the interrogations went. “It’s understandable that this whole situation brings me to tears. I understood that this was some kind of endless internal pain, this was a dead end,” he said.
On January 29, CAS disqualified Valieva for four years. The period of suspension is counted from the moment the sample is taken – December 25, 2021. The fact that traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in it became known after the end of the team tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games, where the Russian team won gold.
The athlete was deprived of gold for winning the team tournament at the 2022 Games as part of the Russian team, as a result of which the team received bronze. Valieva was also left without the Russian and European champion titles.
