Philip Hersh called the apology a way for Kamila Valieva to restart her career

American sports journalist Philip Hersh has named a way for Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva, disqualified for doping, to restart her career. His words are quoted by Sports.ru.

According to the journalist, the athlete needs to apologize. “There is nothing else left. To say that she did not know that she was taking an illegal drug, that there was no intent in her actions. And do it sincerely,” Hersh suggested.

The journalist cited the example of the United States, where, according to him, they are always ready to give a second chance to those who ask for it. “The other thing is if Camila knows who actually gave her these pills, then it’s not easy for her right now,” Hersh added.

On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport disqualified Valieva for four years. The period of suspension starts from the moment the positive doping test is taken – December 25, 2021. The fact that traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in it became known after the end of the team tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games, where the Russian team won gold.
