IOC head Bach said he fears aggressive statements from Russia
President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach spoke about the participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Games in Paris. His words are quoted by Inside the Games.
Bach said that he fears aggressive statements from Russia and the Russian government. “We set conditions, these conditions will not change: those who are ready to respect them are welcome in Paris, those who do not want to follow them are not welcome,” the IOC head emphasized.
On March 17, IOC Vice President John Coates announced the expected number of Russians at the 2024 Games. He said that about 40 Russians would be able to compete at the competition.
In December 2023, the IOC decided to admit Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the 2024 Games. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
