Russian Qarabag player Lunev spoke about refusing to move to Newcastle
Russian Qarabag player Andrey Lunev spoke in an interview with the YouTube channel “22 Fools” about his refusal to transfer to the English Premier League (EPL) club.
Lunev shared that when he played for the German Bayer Leverkusen, he was offered to move to Newcastle as the third or fourth goalkeeper. “They have two experienced goalkeepers and are missing a third goalkeeper. They just took Loris Karius. I refused,” said the footballer.
Lunev has been playing for the Azerbaijani Qarabag since August 2023. Together with the team, he reached the 1/8 finals of the Europa League, where he lost to Bayer, for whom the Russian played from 2021 to 2023.
From 2017 to 2021, Lunev represented Zenit St. Petersburg. Together with the blue-white-blue team, the goalkeeper won the Russian Premier League (RPL) three times. The goalkeeper has seven matches as part of the Russian national team.
