Coach Rodionenko on criticism of food at the gymnasts’ training camp: they won’t feed them caviar
The head coach of the Russian artistic gymnastics team, Valentina Rodionenko, responded to Angelina Melnikova, who criticized the food at the Ozero Krugloye training base near Moscow. Her words are quoted by RBC.
Rodionenko praised the athlete’s statement with the phrase “they won’t feed you caviar – the budget doesn’t allow it.” She was surprised that Melnikova complained about food through the media, and not in a personal conversation.
At the end of February, Melnikova complained about the food during the training camp and assessed it with the phrases “there is nothing to eat” and “you have to survive on vegetables.” According to the athlete, during the pandemic the quality and variety of food has dropped significantly.
Melnikova is the 2020 Olympic champion in the team all-around, the silver medalist of the Games in the same program event, as well as the winner of bronze medals in the individual competition and in floor exercises.
