The head of the press service of Spartak Zelenov hopes for a favorable outcome for Quincy

The head of the press service of Moscow “Spartak” Dmitry Zelenov made a statement on the situation with the team’s Dutch legionnaire Quincy Promes. He is quoted by “Championship”.

According to him, the lawyers and the football player’s manager notified the club of a change in the preventive measure against the player arrested in Dubai. “Promes’ defense will continue the appeal process in the appeal court against the verdict of the Amsterdam District Court related to the request of the Dutch authorities for his extradition to the Netherlands. We hope for a favorable outcome for our football player,” Zelenov said.

Previously, Promes was arrested in Dubai at the request of the Dutch prosecutor’s office. It was noted that the detention is connected with the possibility of further extradition of Promes, convicted in the Netherlands, to his homeland.

On February 29, Promes was detained at border control at Dubai airport for being involved in an accident and leaving the scene. Later it was clarified that the football player would not be sentenced to prison in the UAE – he would be punished with a fine. On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes in absentia to six years in prison for drug smuggling. In the summer of 2023, he received 18 months in prison in his homeland for attacking his brother with a knife.
