“Spartak”: footballer Promes, detained in Dubai, cannot yet return to Russia
Spartak answered a question about the return to Russia of legionnaire Quincy Promes, detained in the UAE. RIA Novosti provides a comment from the Red-White press service.
“The consideration of the circumstances that do not yet allow Quincy Promes to return to Russia may take some more time,” the club said, noting that they are in contact with the footballer’s representatives.
On February 29, Promes was detained at border control at Dubai Airport for being involved in an accident and leaving the scene. Later it was clarified that the football player would not be sentenced to prison in the UAE – he would be punished with a fine.
On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes in absentia to six years in prison for drug smuggling. In the summer of 2023, he received 18 months in prison in his homeland for attacking his brother with a knife.
