The head of WADA Banka announced the adoption of measures to check the cleanliness of Russians before the Olympic Games
President of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Witold Banka spoke about testing Russian athletes before the 2024 Olympic Games. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Banka said that samples are taken from Russian athletes at competitions and training, after which they are tested outside the country. “Despite this, given historical moments, WADA remains skeptical towards Russia. We must remain vigilant to ensure that all measures are taken to check the cleanliness of these athletes,” the head of the organization added.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of Sports and the Russian Olympic Committee to formulate proposals for the performance of Russian athletes at the Summer Olympics in Paris. For each sports federation, the conditions for participation in the tournament must be determined.
Russians and Belarusians will be able to take part in the 2024 Olympics as individual neutral athletes by decision of the International Olympic Committee. However, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will miss the tournament. In addition, there will be no representatives of team sports in Paris.
