Dyukov: The RFU has a negative attitude towards the situation with the convicted legionnaire Promes
President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Alexander Dyukov spoke about Spartak legionnaire Quincy Promes, convicted in the Netherlands and detained in Dubai. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Dyukov said that the RFU has a negative attitude towards the situation around Promes. “We expect behavior from football players that will become a positive example for fans and young football players,” he said. The head of the RFU emphasized that Spartak should make a decision on the admissibility of Promes’ continued stay in the team.
Earlier, Spartak commented on the situation with Promes. The team expressed hope for the player’s early return and refused to discuss the details of his case.
On February 29, Promes was detained at border control at Dubai Airport for being involved in an accident and leaving the scene. Later it was clarified that the football player would not be sentenced to prison in the UAE – he would be punished with a fine. As a result, he will have to be able to return to Moscow.
On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes in absentia to six years in prison for drug smuggling. In the summer of 2023, he received 18 months in prison in his homeland for attacking his brother with a knife.
