Ovechkin said that it was difficult for him because of the exchange of Kuznetsov from Washington
Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin commented on the exchange of Russian Evgeniy Kuznetsov from the club. His words are quoted by journalist Tariq El-Bashir on social networks X (formerly Twitter).
Ovechkin said that it was hard for him because of Kuznetsov’s departure. “He was an important part of the team, a great friend of mine. I hope everything will work out for him in the new team,” the hockey player noted.
Kuznetsov’s transfer to the Carolina Hurricanes became known on March 8. The hockey player called the exchange his last chance.
On March 2, Kuznetsov was put up for the waiver draft. On the same day, he completed the NHL Player Assistance Program, which he began a month earlier. The program works with hockey players suffering from psychological problems, as well as alcohol or drug addiction. In 2019, Kuznetsov was disqualified for using cocaine.
Kuznetsov has played for Washington since 2014. Together with the club, he won the Stanley Cup in 2018.
