Jonas Vingegaard wins the fifth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico and takes the lead

The Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) won this Friday the fifth stage of the Tirreno-Adriaticodisputed between Torricella Sicura and Valle Castellana over 144 kilometers, with a distant attack in the great pass of the day, 29 kilometers from the finish line, and a subsequent individual ‘time trial’ to the finish line to achieve the stage double and lead.

He attacked in the absence of 29 kilometers to finish, on the ramps of the special category Port of Sian Giacomo, with an average slope of 6.2 percent over 11.9 kilometers. Several runners tried to follow him from behind, including the Spanish Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates) who was the ‘virtual’ leader since the one today dressed in the ‘azzurra’ Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek), sprinter, was not going to overcome the mountainous obstacle. But, after today’s stage, Ayuso does not regain the overall position that was his days ago, in the first three stages.

At the finish line, Vingegaard was able to increase the advantage over his pursuers on the descent to the finish line, the Dane put him 1:12 minutes to Ayusosecond, now Jai Hindleand (BORA-hansgrohe) and 1:14 to Ben O’Connor, Thymen Arensman, Cian Uijtdebroeks and Isaac del Toro.
