Tennis player Andrei Rublev called it unacceptable to disrupt a referee at a tournament in Dubai
Russian tennis player Andrei Rublev apologized on the YouTube channel “Bolshe” for lashing out at a judge at an ATP-500 series tournament in Dubai (UAE).
Rublev called his behavior and raising his voice on the court unacceptable. “Of course, I feel guilty for this. I’m ashamed that I allowed myself to do this and did so many times before this incident,” said the athlete.
The tennis player added that he was offended that he was attributed words that he did not utter. “I just wanted justice—punish me fairly for the fact that I yelled at a person, called him names, and so on,” Rublev noted.
On March 1, during the semi-final match with the representative of Kazakhstan Alexander Bublik, Rublev swore at the line referee for a decision made not in his favor. For this, the Russian was disqualified and deprived of prize money and points.
Rublev later filed an appeal. As a result, his prize and ranking points for the tournament were returned to him.
