RKR announced that athletes would miss the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2024 Games
The Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) made a statement on the participation of athletes in the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris. It is available on the organization’s website.
They noted that athletes and support staff will not take part in the opening and closing ceremonies of the competition. At the awards ceremony for the Russians, the anthem of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) will be played and the organization’s flag will be raised. The RKR emphasized that it considers this decision discriminatory.
“Paralympic athletes continue to prepare for the Games. Currently, taking into account all the criteria and the current situation, the preliminary composition of the delegation may be 225 people, including 125 athletes,” the statement says.
On September 29, 2023, the IPC announced the admission of Russian athletes to the 2024 Games in Paris. Individual athletes will be able to take part in the tournament in a neutral status. In 2022, the IPC denied Russian athletes entry to the Winter Paralympic Games in Beijing. Initially, the Russians were allowed to compete in a neutral status, but then the decision was changed.
