The national team was aboard Marraqueta, in the 66th edition of the South American Sailing Championship of the lightning class, held in Salinas.
The Ecuadorian crew of the Marraqueta boat, made up of Jonathan Martinetti, John Puga and Francisco Almeida, won the 66 Championship South American Lightning Class Sailing, which was played at the spa of Salinas, in southeastern Ecuador.
The Chilean crew made up of Felipe Robles, Andrés Guevara and Paula Herman (Ph.D.) escorted the Ecuadorian when she was located in the second place in the preliminary table of accumulated results of the nine races contested in the tournament, which also brought together boats from Argentina, Colombia, Peru and the United States.
The third place went to the crew of also Ecuadorian Julio Vélez, followed by the boat commanded by Argentine Javier Conte.
The United States, Colombia and Chile ranked fifth, sixth and seventh of the competition that took place between Thursday and Saturday, and which brought together a total of 24 Lightning-class vessels in the waters of the Ecuadorian Pacific Ocean, as reported this Sunday by the organization of the contest.
The championship had as headquarters of the Salinas Yacht Club, in the coastal province of Santa Elena (in southeastern Ecuador), and had the endorsement of the Ecuadorian Sailing Federation and the International Association of the Lightning Class. (D)
