Real Sociedad has been eliminated from the Champions League of the 2023-24 season, this Tuesday, at not being able to overcome the round of 16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain. The French team has won, 1-2, at the Reale Arena, in the second legwhich, together with the 2-0 in the first leg, grants classification to Luis Enrique’s team. Kylian Mbappé has scored both goals for Paris Saint-Germainin minutes 15 and 56, and Mikel Merino has done the one for Realin the 89th minute. The txuri-urdin team has fought with pride until the end of the qualifying round, and says goodbye to the top continental competition after having signed a career to remember.

With a spectacular atmosphere and impressive colors at the Reale Arena (39,336 fans attended, historical record), Real started the match by pressing Paris Saint-Germain very close to their area, looking to steal and get on top as quickly as possible. In the seventh minute, a clearance by Nuno Mendes towards his goal went very close to Donnarumma’s right post, for a corner. In the tenth minute, Álex Remiro made a great save against Barcola, to avoid a 0-1 scoreline, after a great run by Mbappe.

After fifteen minutes, the French striker himself went deep down the left, with strength and determination, looked for space to shoot with his right leg and scored an excellent goal, crossing the ball to the opposite side. Luis Enrique’s goal made the tie more difficult for Real, who needed three goals at that point to be able to equalize it.

In the 29th minute, Remiro made another outstanding intervention, in a low and tight shot by Mbappé to which he responded by clearing with his left leg. The performance of the Navarrese goalkeeper has boosted Real, who have taken a step forward and have been able to move the ball more and control the game to a greater extent than until then. The encouragement that came from the stands did the rest, for a Real team that did not give up.

Kubo, with a good shot, had a good opportunity before the break, which was reached at 0-1. The feeling in Anoeta was that Paris Saint-Germain was playing a very firm match, in which Real, who were fighting without giving up, were facing an opponent as complex as could be expected.

In the eleventh minute of the second half, after a long and brilliant play by Paris Saint-Germain, Mbappé was left alone against Remiro, and made it 0-2. There was more than half an hour left in the match, and Imanol put Barrene and Turrientes on the field, to try to lift the team.

Barrene has entered the game with great force. Almost as soon as he came out, he scored a nice header goal, which he did not count because he had started offside; In the following minutes, he led, from the left wing, the Real’s offensive, which had decided to go all out, something that the Gipuzkoan club’s fans were proudly grateful for.

Martín Zubimendi, in the 75th minute, after receiving a good cross from Traoré, had the goal in his boots, which Real deserved. Beñat Turrientes, shortly after, with a shot from point-blank range, was met with a great save from Donnarumma.
