State Duma Deputy Sultan Khamzaev proposed to fine the players for unsatisfactory results in the Russian national team. RIA Novosti reports.
The parliamentarian plans to send a proposal to the Minister of Sports Oleg Matytsin and the head of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Alexander Dyukov. “We are talking about fines for poor play, violation of discipline, as well as complaints from fans,” he said. According to Khamzaev, the threat of punishment should increase the players’ motivation.
The Russian national team could not get to the 2022 World Cup directly. The team lost in the last group stage match to Croatia and finished second in their qualifying group.
The Russian national team will continue to fight for the right to play at the 2022 World Cup in the play-offs. In the first round on March 24, Valery Karpin’s team will play against the Poles at Luzhniki. If the national team wins, they will have to compete for the world championship with the winner of the game Sweden – Czech Republic.
