State Duma deputy Zhurova said that Russia cannot help Quincy Promes
First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs and Olympic speed skating champion Svetlana Zhurova appreciated the opportunity to help Spartak legionnaire Quincy Promes, who was detained in Dubai. She is quoted by Metaratings.
Zhurova noted that the player is not a citizen of Russia, so the country’s authorities cannot do anything. “In principle, it was dangerous for Promes to fly to the UAE – this is a huge risk for him,” she said.
According to her, the situation with Promes will not affect the Russian Premier League (RPL). “Today this information is there, tomorrow it’s gone, and everyone will forget after a while,” the deputy added.
On February 29, the football player was detained at border control at Al Maktoum Airport in Dubai. The Dutchman was taken to the police station and was accompanied by red and white security officers. Spartak called the situation with Promes difficult. Earlier on March 1, it was reported that the player still remains in the UAE.
On February 14, Promes was sentenced at home to six years in prison for participation in drug smuggling. In the summer of 2023, he received 18 months in prison for attacking his cousin with a knife.
