The Supreme Court of Switzerland will consider the appeal of figure skater Valieva against the CAS decision
The Swiss Federal Court will consider the appeal of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. The press service of the authority reported this to TASS.
The Supreme Court has registered an appeal against the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decision to disqualify the athlete. It is noted that if the court sides with the skater, the case will return to CAS for review.
On February 4, sports lawyer Anna Antseliovich named the only way for Valieva to reduce her four-year disqualification for doping. She stated that the athlete can reduce her suspension through the assistance of anti-doping organizations.
On January 29, CAS disqualified Valieva for four years. The period of suspension starts on December 25, 2021. According to the court, Valieva could not prove that she took doping unintentionally.
The doping scandal surrounding Valieva unfolded at the 2022 Olympic Games. Traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in the skater’s sample from December 2021.
