President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) Mikhail Mamiashvili described the relationship with American athletes. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to him, the parties communicate very warmly. “And they beat our best wrestlers, and our guys beat their famous colleagues. This led to an increase in the prestige, attractiveness and popularity of our sport,” Mamiashvili said.
The functionary also spoke about the friendship of two-time Olympic champion Russian Abdulrashid Sadulaev with American Olympic winner Kyle Snyder. “He flew to visit Sadulaev in Dagestan more than once, and they traveled through the mountains. This is the kind of human relationship that developed between them,” Mamiashvili said.
On April 4, 2023, the executive committee of the United World of Wrestling decided to allow Russian athletes to participate in international tournaments. It was noted that athletes will be allowed to compete subject to the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee.
