Anderlecht coach and Manchester City idol, Vincent Kompany, revealed this Sunday that he was the target of racist insults during his team’s game at Club Brugge stadium, for the 20th round of the Belgian Championship.
“I leave this game upset. Throughout the game, the coaching staff and I were insulted. Racist insults that were also directed at the players,” said the former City and Belgian national team captain.
“The day ended badly. I’m going to meet my coaching staff and the people who are important to me. We shouldn’t experience what we went through here,” explained Kompany in an interview at the end of the duel, which ended in a 2-2 draw .
Club Brugge condemned “all forms of racism” in a message posted on Twitter.

“Some people do not represent our club’s values and standards, and they have no place in the Jan Breydel stadium,” said the current Belgian champion and runner-up in this edition of the championship, behind Union Saint-Gilloise, while Anderlecht are fourth. .
Kompany’s mother is Belgian, while his father was born in Congo, from where he fled in 1975, becoming in 2018 Belgium’s first black mayor, at the head of the municipality of Ganshoren, in the Brussels region.
