Tennis player Djokovic and football players Messi and Haaland nominated for Laureus award
The nominees for the Laureus World Sports Awards, also called the sports Oscars, have become known. The nominees are announced on the award website.
Six athletes are nominated for the Athlete of the Year nomination. The shortlist included Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, Argentine Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi and Norwegian Manchester City striker Erling Haaland. Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis, American runner Noah Lyles and Dutch Formula 1 Red Bull driver Max Verstappen are also in the running for the award.
In 2023, Messi won the award in this category. He beat Verstappen, Duplantis, as well as PSG forward Kylian Mbappe, tennis player Rafael Nadal and Golden State Warriors basketball player Stephen Curry in the voting.
The award ceremony will take place on April 22 in Madrid (Spain).
