Matytsin: we are waiting for the final decision and recommendations of the IOC on the participation of Russians in the Olympic Games 2024
Russian Minister of Sports Oleg Matytsin made a statement about the participation of Russians in the 2024 Olympic Games (OG). His words are quoted by Match TV.
“We are waiting for the final decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the final recommendations on the participation of our athletes. And together with the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and the sports community we will make a decision,” he noted. According to him, the key when making a decision will be respect for Russian athletes and coaches, respect for their rights and interests, as well as the basic principles of the Olympic Charter.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of Sports and R&D to formulate proposals for the participation of Russian athletes in the Summer Games in Paris.
In December 2023, the IOC decided to admit Russians and Belarusians to the 2024 Olympics. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not get to Paris. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
