Marinin doubted Valieva’s return to sports after disqualification for doping
Olympic champion Maxim Marinin assessed the likelihood of Kamila Valieva returning to the sport. His words are quoted by Sport Express.
Marinin doubted that Valieva would be able to return after the end of her doping suspension. “There is almost a hundred percent lack of confidence that there will be a return. In my opinion, a person needs to think about what she will do next in life,” he said.
The 2006 Games champion explained his position by saying that there is very high competition in Russia. “If she played for another country, then I could believe it. But now there is no opportunity to train in this system, an athlete of this level and class simply falls out of the picture, and it is very difficult to return back,” Marinin noted.
On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport disqualified Valieva for four years. The period of suspension starts on December 25, 2021. The athlete and her partners on the Russian national team were deprived of gold for winning the team tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
