Kolobkov: Estonia’s sanctions against those who performed at the Games of the Future were expected
Former Russian Sports Minister Pavel Kolobkov assessed Estonia’s suspension of the licenses of hockey players who performed at the Future Games in Kazan. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to Kolobkov, the sanctions from the Estonian Hockey Union were expected. “They always try to be first before the first, they try to demonstrate to everyone their active position. At any venue, this applies not only to sports,” he said.
Kolobkov called on Estonia and Latvia to develop sports, and not solve political problems through it. “We have not responded to their decisions for a long time, because it has become ridiculous,” the ex-minister concluded.
On February 23, Latvia and Estonia suspended the licenses of hockey players participating in the Future Games. Earlier, the Latvian Seimas adopted amendments to the Sports Law prohibiting national team sports from competing with teams from Russia and Belarus.
The Games of the Future take place in Kazan from February 21 to March 3. The international tournament features 21 innovative disciplines. They are based on a combination of physical activity, modern technology and the digital environment.
