Independiente del Valle and Liga de Quito, seeded in draw of Copa Libertadores sub-20, with Ecuador with more participants than any other country

On Monday the keys to the continental youth competition will be known, with the striped ones as current monarchs. Orense complete Ecuadorian representation.

Independiente del Valle, defending champion of the Copa Libertadores sub-20, will be part of group A of the 2022 edition of the youth tournament, whose key raffle will take place on Monday in Luque (Paraguay) and find other representatives of Ecuador in Orense and Liga de Quito, the latter also as head of series.

There will be three Ecuadorian teams in the sixth edition of the U-20 Libertadores. The other nine Conmebol countries have one representative each. In the absence of confirmation of the Bolivian and Brazilian casts, Newell’s Old Boys (Argentina), Universidad de Concepción (Chile), Millonarios (Colombia), Guaraní (Paraguay), Sporting Cristal (Peru), Peñarol (Uruguay) and Caracas Venezuela).

The Argentine Rojinegro completes bolillero 1 with the striped ones from Pichincha (automatic) and the albos. In bolillero 2 will be the Brazilian club, Guaraní and Caracas; in the 3rd, Universidad de Concepción, Peñarol and Sporting Cristal; and in the 4th, Millonarios, the Bolivian team and Orense.

Independiente won the Cup title for the last time on March 1, 2020 by beating River Plate in the final (2-1). Those from Pichincha, who have represented Ecuador in all editions, also hold a runner-up, that of 2018.

Liga (Q) will arrive as champion of this year’s U-18 national tournament, in which Orense was third, making use of the extra quota for the continental competition because Ecuador is the host country.

Four teams will advance to the final phase of the Cup. They will play semifinal and final duels. (D)
