Zhurova doubted Arshavin’s possible start to a political career
First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Olympic speed skating champion Svetlana Zhurova assessed the possible start of a political career by former Russian national team footballer Andrei Arshavin. Her words are quoted by Sport24.
She doubted that the ex-player would make such a decision. “He must go through all stages of the elections, choose a region, represent the party. This is not a quick process. Does Arshavin himself need this? We need to find out his opinion,” said Zhurova.
The deputy also recalled that Arshavin will have to publish all of his income. In her opinion, the former football player may not want this.
Arshavin, as a member of Zenit, became the champion of Russia three times, and also won the UEFA Cup and Super Cup in 2008. Arshavin also played for London’s Arsenal, Krasnodar’s Kuban and Kazakhstan’s Kairat.
