Pozdnyakov said that Putin called on the ROC and the Ministry of Sports to decide on participation in the Olympic Games
The head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Stanislav Pozdnyakov, revealed the words of the country’s President Vladimir Putin regarding the participation of athletes in the 2024 Games in Paris. He is quoted by RIA Novosti.
“At a meeting with proxies, he said that the ROC and the Ministry of Sports must finally decide on the issue of the participation of Russian athletes in the Olympics in conditions of discrimination,” Pozdnyakov said. The head of state called for resolving this issue. At the moment, the ROC is analyzing the situation, the head of the committee noted.
Earlier it became known that Russian taekwondo athletes Maxim Khramtsov, Tatyana Minina and Polina Khan will compete for a ticket to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. It was noted that the finalists of the qualifying tournament, where the Russians will perform, will win licenses for the National Olympic Committees (NOCs), and not personal ones.
In December 2023, the IOC decided to admit Russians and Belarusians to the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the 2024 Games. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
