Dmitry Peskov said that Vladimir Putin supports Kamila Valieva
Press Secretary of Russian President Vladimir Putin Dmitry Peskov revealed the attitude of the head of state to the disqualification of figure skater Kamila Valieva. His words are quoted by TASS.
“Of course, the president supports Valieva,” Peskov said, commenting on the fact that at the opening of the Games of the Future, Putin sat next to the athlete.
Earlier, Peskov commented on Valieva’s disqualification. A Kremlin spokesman called the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to disqualify the athlete politicized.
On January 29, CAS disqualified Valieva for four years. The period of suspension starts on December 25, 2021.
According to the court, Valieva could not prove that she did not take doping intentionally. Thus, the athlete and her partners on the Russian team were deprived of gold for winning the team tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
