UFC head White refused to consider Khabib Nurmagomedov the best fighter in history

President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Dana White refused to consider Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov the best mixed style (MMA) fighter in history. The head of the promotion said this in an interview with the Games With Names YouTube channel.

“The best fighter in history is Jon Jones. He still hasn’t been defeated. Khabib hasn’t lost either, but I’d like to see more from him. Jones beat everyone at light heavyweight, and now he wins at heavyweight,” White said.

Jones is the current UFC heavyweight champion. The American won the belt in March last year, defeating Frenchman Cyril Hahn ahead of schedule. After that, he was supposed to defend his title in a fight against compatriot Stipe Miocic, but two weeks before the fight he suffered a shoulder injury and withdrew. As a result, the Russian Sergei Pavlovich and the British Tom Aspinall competed for the title of interim heavyweight champion. Aspinall won by knockout and is expected to become Jones’ next title opponent.

Before this, Jones competed in the UFC light heavyweight division, becoming its champion. He defended his title 11 times, spending 13 years in the UFC without defeat. At the same time, the American was disqualified twice for doping. In total, he has 27 wins and one defeat; another fight with his participation was declared invalid. The American suffered his only defeat by disqualification in 2009 in a fight with compatriot Matt Hamill for illegal elbow strikes.

Nurmagomedov retired in 2020. He won the UFC lightweight title in 2018 and defended it three times against Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje before announcing his retirement from the sport. The undefeated Russian won 29 victories in fights under MMA rules.
