FLGR President Elena Vyalbe said that she will not root for the Russians at the Olympics
President of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) Elena Vyalbe said that she will not root for the Russians at the Olympic Games. Her words on Wednesday, February 21, are quoted by TASS.
Vyalbe expressed doubts that “judging by what is happening there,” the Olympics will take place at all. “I won’t watch it. If the Russians perform there, for God’s sake, but I won’t root for them and won’t follow them,” said the functionary.
Vyalbe did not specify what caused her doubts. The 2024 Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
On February 16, Norwegian NRK journalist Jan Petter Saltvedt ridiculed Välbe’s words about the envy of foreigners towards Russian tournaments. The head of the FLGR expressed the opinion that people abroad follow Russian tournaments and are jealous. In response to this, Saltvedt noted that foreigners cannot watch Russian competitions because they are not broadcast. He believed that Vyalba would actually like the Russians to return to international competitions.
Last December, the International Olympic Committee allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympics in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, or who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to participate in the Games. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
