Russian tennis player Potapova said she is not going to change her citizenship
Russian tennis player Anastasia Potapova spoke about a possible change of sports citizenship. Her words on Wednesday, February 21, are quoted by TASS.
Potapova stated that she does not intend to change citizenship following her husband Alexander Shevchenko, who announced his transition to the flag of Kazakhstan in January of this year. “No one offered me anything, and it’s too late to do so. I don’t change anything about my team or myself. I perform as I have done for a long time. I know many people joke that Nastya will leave. Don’t worry – Nastya won’t leave. Nastya stays at home,” the tennis player admitted.
The athlete said that she does not discuss the topic of changing citizenship with her husband. According to her, this is everyone’s choice, and the husband’s intention to switch to a different flag has been known for a long time. “Sasha has not lived in Russia since he was nine years old. He makes decisions himself, and my task as a wife is simply to support him in any endeavor and choice,” Potapova summed up.
22-year-old Potapova is ranked 35th in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings. She married Shevchenko in December 2023.
