Russian Rangers goalkeeper Igor Shesterkin recognized as the first star of the NHL game
Russian New York Rangers goalkeeper Igor Shesterkin was recognized as the first star of the National Hockey League (NHL) match. A Lenta.ru correspondent reported this on Wednesday, February 21.
Shesterkin became the best player in the Rangers’ match with the Dallas Stars, which ended in a 3-1 victory for the New Yorkers. The Russian goalkeeper stopped 41 of 42 shots on goal. The second and third stars of the meeting were Shesterkin’s teammates – Finnish forward Kaapo Kakko and American defenseman Adam Fox, who scored a puck each.
Dallas head coach Peter DeBoer admired Shesterkin’s performance. “Our goalkeeper also played well, but Shesterkin clearly showed an elite level of goalkeeping. We must give him credit, he was very good,” the specialist noted.
On February 10, Shesterkin beat American Chicago Blackhawks forward Nick Foligno during a match. The opponent tried to push the puck into the Russian’s goal, for which he received two blows to the head. The fighters were separated by referees and other hockey players.
28-year-old Shesterkin has been playing in the NHL since 2020. He spent all seasons with the Rangers.
