The IOC and WADA opposed the “Olympics on steroids”
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appreciated the idea of holding the “Olympics on steroids.” A joint statement by the organizations was published by the Inside The Games portal.
There they opposed holding the competition. “This event will not adhere to the principles of fair play and will not demonstrate sportsmanship. Moreover, these Games are potentially hazardous to the health of participants,” the organizations said in a statement.
The IOC and WADA also called on the authors of the idea to support the Olympic movement. “We need to create a level playing field for all athletes around the world using improved technology,” the statement said.
In early February, American billionaire and PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel decided to hold the “Olympics on steroids.” At the tournament, athletes will be allowed to use any substances to improve their results.
