Irina Rodnina said that she feels sorry for the skaters of the international Grand Prix series
Three-time Olympic champion and now State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina spoke about the skaters competing in the international Grand Prix series. Her words are quoted by Match TV.
Rodnina said that she felt sorry for these athletes. “What interest is there in them? I am from the old generation, I have concepts – Olympic champion, world champion, continental champion. And the Grand Prix stage is family joy and some small monetary rewards,” she explained.
Earlier, Rodnina ridiculed the Russian Figure Skating Grand Prix. She called the competition “the housing office championship.”
On March 1, 2022, the International Skating Union (ISU) banned Russians and Belarusians from competing in competitions under its auspices. Due to sanctions, skaters cannot take part in the World and European Championships, as well as other tournaments, including the international Grand Prix series.
