Tarasova proposed changing citizenship for skaters from the Russian Federation who want it
Honored figure skating coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova spoke about the change of citizenship by Russian figure skaters. Her words are quoted by Metaratings.
“Whoever wants to can change his sports citizenship. If there is no motivation to perform in their native country, let them join another,” Tarasova suggested.
She added that she does not understand who will add financial motivation to Russian figure skaters in order to retain them. “Does the federation have money? Ministry of Sports? Don’t talk nonsense,” said the coach.
On March 1, 2022, the International Skating Union banned Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions under its auspices. Due to sanctions, skaters were unable to take part in the World and European Championships, as well as in other international tournaments.
