Philadelphia coach Tortorella called the NHL a stupid league with problem players
Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Tortorella criticized the National Hockey League (NHL). His words are quoted by Sportsnet.
Tortorella called the league stupid. “There are a lot of great hockey players in the league, skilled and fast. But psychology and understanding what it means to be a professional – there are problems with this. As well as respect for the NHL,” he said.
The coach noted that he is aware of the strong changes in the game, but, in his opinion, the fundamentals should not be lost. “That worries me a little bit about the younger athletes right now,” he added, emphasizing that players must remember to show respect both on the ice and in the locker room.
The 65-year-old specialist has been heading Philadelphia since 2022. Tortorella also worked for the New York Rangers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Tampa Bay Lightning and Vancouver Canucks.
