Finnish coach Lehkonen was outraged by the soft attitude towards Russians in the NHL
Finnish coach Ismo Lehkonen spoke about the attitude towards Russian players in the National Hockey League (NHL). His words are quoted by Yle.
According to the expert, it is too soft. “Sometimes the ears turn red with the way Russians are praised and highlighted in the league. I expected the players to start asking their opinion about what is happening in Ukraine,” Lekhonen was indignant.
The coach also noted that Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin still has a photo with Russian President Vladimir Putin on social networks. “But that doesn’t bother the North American media, they continue to follow his pursuit of Wayne Gretzky’s record,” Lekhonen said.
Earlier, the head of the National Hockey League (NHL) players’ union, Marty Walsh, called for the return of the Russian national team to international tournaments. According to him, Russian hockey players are not to blame for the situation in Ukraine.
