Russian biathlete Virolainen, who changed her citizenship, became 59th in the World Cup race

Former Russian biathlete Daria Virolainen, who changed her citizenship to Finnish, took 59th place in the 15-kilometer individual race at the 2024 World Championships. This was reported by a Lenta.ru correspondent.

The start took place on Tuesday, February 13, in the Czech Republic of Nove Mesto. Virolainen made four penalties and lost to the winner, Italian Lisa Vittozzi, by more than seven minutes.

German Janina Hettich took second place. The winner of bronze was the Frenchwoman Julia Simon.

Virolainen became eligible to compete for Finland in international tournaments on August 18. The athlete has Finnish citizenship since 2021.

Russians and Belarusians do not participate in international competitions by decision of the International Biathlon Union (IBU). The order came into force in March 2022 and will remain in effect until further notice.
