Boris Mikhailov said that the development of world hockey without Russia is impossible
Two-time Olympic champion and Soviet hockey legend Boris Mikhailov spoke about the impact of the Russian team’s removal from international tournaments. His words are quoted by TASS.
Mikhailov said that the development of world hockey without Russia is a priori impossible. “They are against it because we are competitors; if we participate, they may not be among the winners,” he considered.
On February 13, the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) extended the suspension of the Russian and Belarus national teams. The reason was current security risks. The head of the IIHF clarified that the issue of the participation of the Russian team in the Olympic Games will be resolved in February-March 2025.
Russia was first suspended in February 2022. The country was also deprived of the right to host the World Cup in 2023 and the world youth championship.
