ARD: 409 doping cases against Russians from Rodchenkov’s base were closed without sanctions

409 doping cases initiated against Russian athletes from the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory (LIMS) database were closed without sanctions. RIA Novosti reports this with reference to the German TV channel ARD.

The information was obtained through a confidential report from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). It is reported that after the data provided by WADA by Grigory Rodchenkov, 834 cases were opened against Russians. Of these, 409 were closed, and investigations into 145 are ongoing. It is noted that decisions on sanctions have been made in another 280 cases.

Rodchenkov fled to the United States in 2015 and became a WADA informant. Rodchenkov’s testimony served as the basis for Richard McLaren’s report, which spoke about the existence of a state system of doping support in Russia.

As a result of the investigation, a number of Russian athletes faced disqualification, cancellation of results and deprivation of awards. The Russian national team was banned from performing at the Olympics with its flag and anthem.
