KHL club “Siberia” terminated the contract with Fedor Gordeev due to his foreign player status
The Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) club Siberia has terminated its contract with defenseman Fedor Gordeev. This was reported on the league website.
The agreement with the 25-year-old hockey player was terminated at the initiative of the player himself. According to RIA Novosti, the reason was his status as a foreign player, due to which Siberia cannot sign him up for matches. It is noted that the team expects to offer Gordeev a contract in the new season.
“Siberia” was awarded four technical defeats for violating the limit on foreign players on January 17. Gordeev was the fourth legionnaire, as he has US citizenship. During the season, the Russian Hockey Federation awarded the player Russian sports citizenship.
A new limit was introduced in the KHL this season. A team’s roster for a match can include a maximum of three foreign players.
