The Russian national hockey team explained the refusal of awards at the Cup of the Future with emotions

The Russian junior hockey team (under 18 years old) explained the refusal of awards at the international Future Cup tournament in Minsk. RBC reports this.

The hockey players apologized for their actions, saying that they were in a depressed emotional state after a number of refereeing decisions in the final match. The athletes emphasized that they did not want to disrespect their opponent.

The Russian junior team refused awards at the Future Cup on February 10. Domestic athletes lost in overtime to the youth team of Belarus, made up of players no older than 20 years old, with a score of 5:6 and should have received medals for second place.

After this, the senator of Belarus, former chairman of the country’s Hockey Federation, Dmitry Baskov, called the behavior of the Russians unacceptable. He felt that this was contrary to the friendship and support that has always existed between the countries.
